The Tapua Family
The children of the Tapua marriage to Te Kawehau were in order of birth, Tari, who married the Pēwhairangi chief Te Wharerahi, Te Anga, Te Ruanui, Patuone and Nene. Te Kawehau had a son by her second husband. This son was Wi Waka Turau who was also part of the Ngāti Hao leadership and was with Nene and Patuone at Ruapekapeka, the last stand of Te Ruki Kawiti.
Both Te Anga and Te Ruanui were killed in battle with Ngāti Pou and there was no issue for either. Tari’s children were Tupanapana, Tarapata and Te Tane. Tupanapana in turn fathered Ina Te Papatahi. Tarapata fathered Harata Tarapata. Both Ina and Harata were to become favourite models of the painter Charles Frederick Goldie.
